Buffalo Area Aquatic Club Awarded Level 3 Club and Safe Sport Recognition by USA Swimming
BAAC is one of 28 Clubs in the U.S. to Achieve Safe Sport Recognition
BUFFALO, NY, May 4, 2019 - The Buffalo Area Aquatic Club (BAAC) has advanced from Level 2 to Level 3 club recognition by USA Swimming. With a total of 4 Levels, the voluntary program recognizes clubs that demonstrate a commitment to long term club growth, development and stability. The criteria for BAAC to achieve this recognition includes additional emphasis on club review and evaluation, active involvement with the Niagara LSC and increased opportunities for education and involvement of coaches, parents and swimmers. A Level 3 club also has athletes at the Zone, Sectional or Junior National Level.
In addition to club level recognition, BAAC was recently recognized by USA Swimming as one of 28 clubs (of 3,000 total clubs in the U.S.) to be certified with Safe Sport Club Recognition as of April 16th. Safe Sport Recognized Clubs have demonstrated a commitment to athlete safety through policies, reporting procedures and education above and beyond the standard requirements. Safe Sport is a program implemented by USA Swimming that provides athlete protection policies, safeguarding procedures and educational engagement for coaches, swimmers and parents.
BAAC wrapped up the short course season in March at the Niagara LSC Championships and had two swimmers advance to Eastern Zone and Sectional Championships. Megan Jermak competed in her second Speedo Sectionals Short Course Championships at Ithaca College on March 28th-31st with qualifying times in the 100 and 200 Backstroke and 50 Freestyle against swimmers from eight states.
